Sometimes all it takes is a Bank Holiday to make an entire city feel great. Combine that bank holiday with an Eddi Reader show and you've got a bloody brilliant day. You can't call yourself a Live Recording label without a 'Live at Leeds' release and with City Varieties as the backdrop, Eddi and the gang delivered a great Kufala performance. The venue was a magnificently restored 18th Century opera hall that was first class right down to the unbelievable ice cream at intermission. Highlights of this set were Hummingbird, Kiteflyer's Hill and a stand-out cover of Loudon Wainwright III's, Swimming Song but frankly, the whole set was a gem. Boo Hewerdine fans will love his performance of "Limelight"...cause Boo knows music! Like a schoolgirl with a crush, Eddi really got into her love of Robert Burns tonight. Her encore of AE Fond Kiss will convince you of our theory that Eddi is having a secret affair with the ghost of Rabbie. A grand time was had by all, thanks for the ice cream, Leeds! Final Thought: We need more Bank Holiday Weekends.
